Britain is opening up for international students

Recent UK government announcements about the easing of travel restrictions mean that international travel to the UK is becoming easier for everyone.

Study Group CEO Emma Lancaster talks about what this means for international students:

“We are delighted that the number of countries on the ‘red list’ – those countries/territories with high COVID-19 case rates or variant(s) of concern – has been significantly reduced this week, with only seven countries still on the list. This means that international students from most countries will no longer have to quarantine in a hotel once they arrive in the UK.

“In other good news, the UK will now recognise vaccination certificates issued by a much greater number of countries. India and Hong Kong are among the many countries and territories whose approved vaccinations will be recognised (from 11 October 2021) and fully vaccinated students from these countries will no longer need to self-isolate once they arrive in the UK.

“The success of the UK COVID-19 vaccination programme means that it is now much easier for British universities and colleges to welcome international students to join us for study in the UK too.

“Once our students arrive in the UK, they will find that most of the remaining COVID-19 restrictions have now been lifted, including many of the rules around larger gatherings and social distancing.

“As a precaution, many universities are continuing to use a ‘hybrid’ approach to teaching, with some classes being taught in-person and others remaining online. Our number one priority will always be the safety and wellbeing of our students, staff, and the communities in which we work. As such, our approach will be gradual and very carefully managed and will be done in line with our partner universities and UK government guidance.

“We look forward to welcoming our international students to their studies with us in the UK.”
