Study Group partner ranked top in Australia and second in the world for global impact

Congratulations to our partner, The University of Sydney, which ranked 1st in Australia and 2nd in the world for the second year running in the 2021 Times Higher Education Impact rankings.

The Rankings measure an institution's research, outreach and stewardship against UN Sustainable Development Goals - a blueprint to achieving a better and more sustainable future for all.

Vice-Chancellor and Principal Professor Stephen Garton said:

“The University’s continuing excellence in these rankings reflects its ‘leadership for good’ mission; whether through its world-class research and education or its ongoing commitment to excellence in institutional policies and practice.”

The University of Sydney was particularly praised for work on the UNDSG 6 for ensuring access to water and sanitation for all, in which it was ranked number one globally. Over 170 researchers across seven Sydney faculties research issues related to clean water and sanitation.

The University was also highly ranked for work to make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable – placing fourth in the world. Academics from across the institution work on research inequalities and solutions to the complex challenges faced by the increasing numbers of people who live in cities across the world.

Responding to the news, Study Group Director for Australia and New Zealand Alex Chevrolle said:

“We are delighted to see the fantastic work of our friends and colleagues at The University of Sydney honoured in this way.

Sydney was our first University partner over 25 years ago and over that time students from around the world have studied with us before progressing on to degrees at the University and then rewarding careers. This includes students working in areas like engineering which prepare them to make a difference for the good in their own countries and internationally after graduating, very much fulfilling our own motto of ‘making a better world through education.’

I have no doubt that our Sydney International Study Centre students and alumni will be as proud as we are of this international honour.”
