Study Group has warmly welcomed an announcement by the New Zealand government that it will begin a staged return of international travel into the country in 2022, with international students expected to be able to enter the country from the end of April.

Although the New Zealand government’s COVID-19 Response Minister noted that “travel in 2022 won't necessarily be exactly the same as it was in pre-2020 travel”, international travellers will no longer be required to complete managed isolation, although full vaccination, a negative pre-departure test, a declaration of full travel history, test on arrival and at the end of a 7 day self-isolation period will be required.

Welcoming the news, Study Group Chief Executive said:

We are delighted for all students keen to travel to New Zealand that there is now the prospect of returning to in-person study in 2022. Clearly it will still be some months before international students are able travel to New Zealand at pre-Covid levels, but the outline of a roadmap for return is warmly welcomed by all engaged with international education in New Zealand.

The news follows an announcement by the Australian government that international students can begin to return to the country from December 2021. Read our response to this exciting news in our blog post.
